Dubravka: Every trophy is crucial for United

Martin Dubravka says that every trophy Manchester United compete for this season is “crucial” after the Reds defeated Burnley 2-0 to progress to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Christian Eriksen’s finish and Marcus Rashford’s spectacular solo goal saw Erik ten Hag’s men advance in the competition on Wednesday evening. This means United will have competed in the last-eight of the competition six times over the last 10 seasons.

Speaking to MUTV, Dubravka said that team needs take each game as it comes and build from each performance to gain silverware.

“I think every competition is crucial.” said Dubravka. “We want to win the trophies so we have to build off of some of the performances today, the next games are coming very soon. It is going to be a difficult time for us but I am sure we can handle [it].

Dubravka: We did what we had to

Martin Dubravka insists the victory over Burnley is something to build on ahead of a busy few weeks ahead...

“You are trying to build up from the short passes and if your opponent puts you under pressure, sometimes it is difficult. So, credit to Burnley because they changed their style. But I am glad we are in the next round because that is the most important thing for us.”

The 2-0 victory against the Clarets marked Dubravka’s first clean sheet for United since joining from Newcastle United on loan in the summer. This achievement was “important” to the Slovakian shot stopper as he helped contribute towards the Reds' victory.

“I think tonight we did what we had to do and that is to win the game. Some part of the game was great, some was not, but it was important that we keep a clean sheet and we won the game.

“Sometimes it is difficult, especially when you do not play that long. But it was important for us that we won and some parts of the game was very good. But now we have to build from this and the clean sheet is a bonus so I am happy for that one.”

One member of Dubrvka’s defence who helped him gain that clean sheet was Casemiro. With Harry Maguire missing the game through illness, the midfielder slotted into the centre-back role with ease. The Brazilian enforcer helped keep the Burnley attackers quiet and most notably made a goal-line clearance. When asked about his influence at the back, Dubravka had nothing but praise for his makeshift centre-half.

“He is comfortable with the ball at his feet, you could see that today. Yes, some of the balls were very risky but he can handle the situation, he can handle the pressure so I think he did very well.”

Throughout the game, the United fans were as vocal as ever to help guide the team through to the end. When asked what impact this had on the performance, Dubravka had nothing but praise for the Reds in the stands.

“They supported us throughout the whole game. You could feel the power and I think every player enjoyed it.”
