Greenwood wants to build on a 'mind-blowing' year
Mason Greenwood is hungry to score more goals for Manchester United this season, having already reached the tally he would have accepted in his maiden senior campaign.
The 18-year-old's cool penalty conversion against Tranmere Rovers, in last month's Emirates FA Cup victory, was his 10th strike so far in 2019/20.
He got off the mark for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men in the Europa League, in September's win over Astana at Old Trafford, and has also netted in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, as well as notching goals for England's Under-21s and for United's Under-23s in Premier League 2 and the Leasing.com Trophy. In other words, he has scored in every competition he has played in this season.
Greenwood reflected on all of the above in a conversation with MUTV's Mark Sullivan, when the pair strolled around the Academy building at the Aon Training Complex, and he explained how things have "happened really quickly" since his debut in the Champions League tie at Paris Saint-Germain almost a year ago.
"Everything has been quick and I've had to take everything on board really and to listen to what the manager and the other players have to say," Greenwood told us.
“It's been a hard journey and I'm nowhere near where I want to be yet. I'll carry on working hard and keep going.
“But if someone said to me at the start of the season, you'll score 10 goals for Manchester United in your first season, I would have taken it straight away. I've done that now and I want more.”
When asked which area of his game he most needs to work on, the teenager replied: "Headed goals. I only scored three or four in the youth team.
“I've not scored one in the first team and it'd be nice to get one this season.
“If I work on my heading, it would probably get me two or three extra goals a season so, if I work on that, I can get more goals really.”
Mason feels his first-team manager is the perfect role model to learn from, when it comes to hitting the back of the net.
“Ole is a major part,” added Greenwood. “He has done it himself and knows what is he is talking about. Everyone listens to him. He helps me a lot. Obviously, Kieran [McKenna] as well. I was with him in my first season in the youth team and now he's with the first team.”
The youngster is clearly living the dream, representing the club he has always supported and parading his talents on the big stage.

“It's mind-blowing really," he said. “Being in the Manchester United first-team dressing room and stepping out at Old Trafford.
“I can't explain it really. It's just amazing. You see me smile when I score. It's out of this world.
“I want to make my mark at the club and score as many goals as I possibly can. I want to win trophies at United, every young boy coming up from the Academy does, so it would be amazing to get one of them soon."
