Greenwood names surprise toughest opponent

Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has identified his toughest opponent – and he admits it's maybe one few fans would correctly guess.

The teenager may have played against some top talents in the Champions League but, during an exclusive fans' Q&A session that will be released on Thursday, he pinpoints Fulham's underrated Joe Bryan as his trickiest marker.

The left-back appeared in both of our games with the Cottagers last season – a 2-1 win for the Reds in London and it was his header that earned a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford towards the end of the campaign.

Joe Bryan got too close to Mason on this occasion and was booked for his challenge.

Mason remembers being given a hard time by the dogged 27-year-old during the two fixtures.

When posed the question by Philip L from Norway about the hardest opponent he has faced in his fledgling career, our no.11 thought carefully before providing his detailed answer.

“Hi Philip, that’s a good question,” Greenwood replied. “I’ve probably got to say, it might be a surprising one, but do you know [Joe] Bryan, the one for Fulham? He allowed me no space, no time on the ball, when we played them home and away. It was one of my most difficult games for us.

“He’s one you probably wouldn’t think I’d say his name, but he was getting tight to me and not giving me much space. He was a good defender and he was probably my toughest challenge.”

Bryan looks set to play in the Championship next season with Fulham, following their relegation after only one year in the top flight.

He scored twice in the play-off final against Brentford to take the Londoners up in 2020 and had also previously hit the net against United, back in the 2017 Carabao Cup tie with his former club Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Look out for the full Mason Greenwood fans' Q&A on Thursday.
