Revealed: United's Player of the Month for August
Mason Greenwood has been voted as Manchester United’s Player of the Month for August.
The Academy product has started the season firing on all cylinders, finding the back of the net in all three of our Premier League matches so far.
Our no. 11 scored an emphatic goal in front of the Stretford End during our 5-1 win over Leeds United.
The 19-year-old then went on to clinch a point away at Southampton with his second-half equaliser before scoring the winner in our 1-0 triumph against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.
Greenwood won the award ahead of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes, who respectively finished in second and third place in the voting. Our prolific forward received an impressive 66 per cent of the votes from Reds supporters, with Pogba finishing on 24 per cent and Bruno on 10.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised our award-winning forward for his development and his finishing qualities, particularly his strike against the Yorkshire outfit in our season opener.
“The way he has developed the last couple of seasons, you can see the way he burst away on that second goal, I think that is a man compared to a boy that was in the first-team two years ago,” the United boss said.
“I like what he has done in pre-season. He has worked so hard to get his fitness and he is ready to go.”
This is the second time Greenwood has claimed this particular accolade, as he also won it back in July 2020.
Last season, Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw and Edinson Cavani all won the prize in back-to-back months, so can Mason replicate that in September? Here's hoping!
