Fitness update on midfielders

Erik ten Hag has provided the latest on the fitness of three of his midfielders, following the Carabao Cup win over Crystal Palace.

The holders secured a place in the Fourth Round with a 3-0 triumph at Old Trafford, courtesy of goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial.

Mason Mount impressed in his first outing since the defeat at Tottenham, our second fixture of the season, but was withdrawn at the interval.

However, Ten Hag allayed any fears that the England international had suffered a recurrence of his injury.

Who won Man of the Match against Palace?

Erik ten Hag made seven changes, but it was a regular starter who stood out and won our fan vote.

"I think it was probably two assists [for Mount] because it was [almost] a pre-assist for the first goal," the boss told MUTV's Stewart Gardner afterwards. "That was also the foundation for that goal. I think he played very good, as we can expect from Mason Mount."

When asked about the withdrawal at the break, Erik replied: "No, but we made that out before the game [the substitution at half-time]."

Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay were not in the matchday squad, which presented an opportunity for Dan Gore to make his senior debut on his 19th birthday.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Ten Hag revealed that Eriksen and McTominay were unavailable due to illness.

"They are ill, both [of them]," he stated.

Hopefully, the pair will be available for the next game, also against Palace, in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon [15:00 BST kick-off].

Harry Maguire appeared to come through the 90 minutes unscathed on his return, producing a commanding display described as "solid" by the manager.
