Antony spot on for Reds

Antony has become only the fifth Manchester United player to score a penalty for the club during Erik ten Hag's reign.

The Brazilian doubled the lead in the Carabao Cup game against Barnsley after Marcus Rashford opened the scoring by finishing off a lovely team move.

Recalled to the line-up, the right-winger chased a Rashford through ball and reached it before Gabriel Slonina, with the visiting keeper booked for bringing him down.

Antony makes no mistake with his penalty to make it 2-0.

Antony calmly fired wide of Slonina's dive to register his first goal of the season, with his last strike coming against Burnley in April.

Excluding shootouts, he is one of only a handful of players to notch from the spot since Ten Hag took charge. The first was Cristiano Ronaldo, who converted from 12 yards against Sheriff Tiraspol in a Europa League fixture in September 2022.

Anthony Martial then netted in the derby defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the following month.

Rashford's penalty, deep into injury time of the Emirates FA Cup victory over Everton at Old Trafford, made him the third man on the list.

Bruno Fernandes surprisingly had to wait until February 2023 to get in on the act, opening the scoring against Crystal Palace in a 2-1 home win, following a VAR call.

Bruno was the scorer of our next five spot-kicks and, although Rashford has also netted a couple, the club captain has been the regular taker.

However, with the Portugal international on the bench on Tuesday, Antony made the most of his opportunity.
