Manchester United had Europa League glory snatched away on a hugely disappointing night in Gdansk, where Villarreal emerged as the ultimate winners of an unbelievable penalty shoot-out.
When the game ended 1-1 after extra-time, no fewer than 22 penalties followed with every single member of both teams taking one. In a cruel twist of fate, David De Gea, our hero on so many occasions, had his spot-kick saved by his opposite number Geronimo Rulli as the Spaniards claimed the victory 11-10 in the shootout.
