Match Preview: Blades v United

Tuesday 15 December 2020 13:05

Manchester United take on the Premier League's bottom side, Sheffield United, at Bramall Lane on Thursday evening.

Following a goalless Manchester derby last time out, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will look to build on our strong league form by extending our run of away wins to 10.

With another landmark up for grabs for the Reds, here is all you need to know ahead of our next league fixture...

TEAM NEWS
Ole will provide the latest team news when he faces the media on Wednesday for his pre-match press conference. Edinson Cavani missed the Manchester derby as he recovered from injury and it remains to be seen whether he'll be fit to play a part in our trip to Yorkshire. Jack O’Connell is out for an extended period for Chris Wilder's men following knee surgery, while forward and former United youngster Oli McBurnie is a doubt with a shoulder issue.

FORM GUIDE
The Reds go into the fixture having won the last nine away matches in the Premier League. Ole’s Reds are also the most in-form team in the top flight, having won four and drawn one of our last five league matches. On the other hand, Sheffield United are rock bottom of the league, having only picked up one point this season - in a 1-1 draw against Fulham. They've lost each of their last seven matches in the competition.

THE MANAGER
Chris Wilder is the manager of the Blades and has been in charge at Bramall Lane since 2016. The Yorkshire man has guided Sheffield United from League One to the Premier League during his spell at the helm. Following the 2018-19 season, he won the LMA Manager of the Year Award and he was also nominated for last season’s Premier League manager Manager of the Year accolade.

OPPOSITION KEY MEN
Sander Berge has been a rock in midfield for the Yorkshire outfit this season and has been touted by Wilder as their best player so far. The big midfielder is not particularly known for his attacking output but he scored a penalty against Liverpool at Anfield. Their top goal scorer so far this season is Ireland international David McGoldrick, with two league goals.

This is the fifth season Chris Wilder has been in charge at Sheffield United.
