TEAM NEWS

Anthony Martial is out with a knee injury but after featuring in Spain Marcus Rashford should be fit and available, as should Luke Shaw, who was substituted at half-time as a protective measure. Centre-back Eric Bailly tested positive for COVID-19 last week and missed the trip to Granada. Ben Davies and Matt Doherty will miss Sunday's game but Toby Alderweireld and Serge Aurier are both available for Mourinho after missing last weekend's draw with Newcastle.

FORM GUIDE

"It's always a tough game after the international break, you don't really look at the performance; you get the three points and move on," Harry Maguire said. United did get the points last time out, coming from behind to beat Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford. It was an important win on a weekend where many of United's close rivals dropped points. The Reds followed that up with Thursday’s 2-0 Europa League win in Granada, which puts us in pole position going into next week’s second leg.

Having had to come from behind away at Newcastle, Tottenham were left floored by a late equaliser from on-loan Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock. Tottenham topped the Premier League in mid-December but had dropped to seventh by the end of month. Though inconsistent, their recent form has seen them climb back into the top-four race. With West Ham and Leicester, the teams sitting in third and fourth, facing each other this weekend, Tottenham will seek to narrow the gap.

THE MANAGER

Mourinho is 16 months into his time at Tottenham Hotspur and has recently endured a difficult few weeks, watching his side crash out of the Emirates FA Cup and UEFA Europa League. One chance of silverware remains for the Portuguese this season and victory against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final later this month would make him the competition's most successful manager. He won three times at Chelsea and once in his time at Old Trafford, beating Southampton 3-2 at Wembley in the 2017 final.

This will be the fourth time Mourinho has faced United since leaving the club in 2018. His record in those games stands at one win, one draw and one defeat.

LAST TIME AT SPURS

United have played only once at Tottenham's new stadium, in June last year. It was the first game back for the Reds during Project Restart and it was a time when fans were not yet accustomed to the training-like thud of the ball around a vast, empty arena. Steven Bergwijn gave Tottenham a first-half lead before Paul Pogba's arrival as a second-half substitute dragged United back into things, winning a penalty that Bruno Fernandes duly converted with nine minutes remaining.

OPPOSITION KEY MEN

Few players have the ability to lead both the goals and assists charts simultaneously, but Harry Kane is one of those. Despite dropping deeper over the last 18 months to become a central part of Tottenham's build-up play, the Tottenham frontman is relentlessly prolific and has netted 19 times in the league, making it his best campaign since 2018. United captain Maguire has said he's ready to "battle" against Kane in North London on Sunday. That being said, Kane has scored in only three of his 14 appearances against United and while Son Heung-min is normally Kane's formidable partner, United will also be concerned by Lucas Moura, the Brazilian attacking midfielder who has looked threatening in recent weeks.
