Bayern Munich 3 United Women 0
Manchester United have been beaten 3-0 by Bayern Munich in the final of the AMOS French Cup.
Marc Skinner's team conceded just a few minutes either side of half-time when Klara Bühl and Lina Magull were on target for Bayern Munich, with both players benefiting from Sophie Baggaley's bad luck in goal.
Saki Kumagai scored the third and final goal of the game to seal the victory and ensure the Reds missed out on some pre-season silverware.
Despite a handful of chances to get back into the game in the second half, it wasn't meant to be for us in Toulouse.
Bayern started on the front foot, piling the pressure on United’s defence. Our backline was called into action almost immediately with Maya Le Tissier making an exceptionally well-timed tackle to prevent the German side from taking a potential early lead.
After 20 minutes, any nerves from the Reds subsided and we saw some exciting link-up play from the front three of Nikita Parris, Adriana Leon and Lucia Garcia.
But a mix-up at the back just before the break would see Bühl advance on United’s goal to score the opening goal, with the ball slipping under Baggaley and into the back of the net.
Despite a double change at the break from the United boss, Bayern extended their lead almost immediately.
Second-half substitute Magull made an instant impact to head home her side's second gaol. Her effort originally hit the post, but deflected off the back of Baggaley into the net.
Moments later, Leah Galton had a golden opportunity to get one back for the Reds but couldn’t quite find her feet to get her effort on target.
Bayern defender Saki Kumagai scored the goal that sealed the victory for her team. She found herself free at the back post following a corner to put the game beyond Skinner’s side.
United will now return home and prepare for a final pre-season friendly against Everton, with plenty of positives to build on from the week in France. We will welcome the Toffees to Carrington as we step up preparations ahead of the new WSL campaign.
