Manchester United Under-21s earned a convincing 5-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers in Premier League 2 action on Saturday lunchtime.

The Reds went ahead after 11 minutes when Mateo Mejia’s low cross was inadvertently turned into his own net by Rovers man Patrick Gamble, but the home side restored parity, 10 minutes before half-time, through Brandon Powell.

Shola Shoretire immediately put us back in front, with a precise finish into the bottom left-hand corner, before the home side equalised for a second time when Tom Atchenson pounced to score from close range.

United moved clear of our opponents in the second half, and regained their lead after the hour mark when Dan Gore skilfully evaded a couple of challenges before providing the finish. Moments after striking a post – the third time United hit the woodwork on the day – Omari Forson doubled our advantage with a smart volley.

Joe Hugill completed a period of three goals in 10 minutes when he converted from the penalty spot, after Mejia had been brought down in the area.
