U18s summary: United v Blackburn

Saturday 28 September 2024 13:34

Manchester United's Under-18s recorded a victory to remember at Carrington on Saturday, beating Blackburn Rovers 9-0 in the U18 Premier League.

Adam Lawrence's side raced into a five-goal buffer at the break as Gabriele Biancheri (two), Zach Baumann, James Scanlon and Dante Plunkett all netted during the first 45 minutes.

The second half was played at the very same tempo, as Scanlon scored another three goals taking his individual tally to four. Substitute Godwill Kukonki also slammed home an effort of his own.

Rovers midfielder Jackson Shorrocks was sent off in injury time after picking up a second yellow card.
James Scanlon took home the match ball after scoring four times at Carrington.
An early mix-up in the Blackburn defence allowed Biancheri to open the scoring after just five minutes played, as he slotted an effort past Blake Wolsoncroft.

Baumann then doubled our advantage with a low, left-footed drive, coming through a sea of bodies to nestle neatly into the bottom left-hand corner.

Biancheri scored again after just 31 minutes played, with Tyler Fletcher combining well with the 18-year-old, allowing him the easiest of tasks to finish and make it 3-0.

Scanlon's first of the encounter came soon after, as the Gibraltar international powered home an effort at the near post, with Fletcher again the orchestrator of it all.
Plunkett got in on the act to make it 5-0 just moments prior to the interval, combining neatly with Biancheri before tucking home from close range to score his first goal for the club.

Lawrence opted to make three changes during the first 15 minutes of the second half and one of those, Jim Thwaites, was quickly involved by teeing-up Scanlon to make it 6-0 to the Reds.

A corner delivery from the right fell fortuitously for Kukonki to smash home our seventh of the game, but United weren't done just yet in terms of scoring.

Scanlon completed his hat-trick after Fletcher's wonderful backheel pass allowed the 18-year-old a simple finish from close range.

The best was yet to come as Scanlon then completed the scoring in the final moments, driving forward through the Rovers midfield before curling an effort that made it 9-0 to United.
Gabriele Biancheri can't stop scoring for United this season.
