Toone and Le Tissier share Players' Player of the Year

Saturday 18 May 2024 12:00

Manchester United Women's Players' Player of the Year award for the 2023/24 season is set to be shared.

Defender Maya Le Tissier and midfielder Ella Toone have both received equal votes from their team-mates and therefore couldn't be separated when it came to a winner.

Maya and Ella are therefore set to share the accolade following superb individual campaigns for Marc Skinner's side, in which they helped the Reds lift the Adobe Women's FA Cup for the first time, last weekend.

With just one game remaining, the United duo will be presented as winners of the prize at Old Trafford this afternoon, ahead of our WSL game against Chelsea.

Le Tissier has been an ever-present for United in defence this season, featuring in every minute of every game across four different competitions for the Reds.

A rock at the back, Maya has also chipped in with two goals, against Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

Having joined from Brighton and Hove Albion back in 2022, the 22-year-old is a popular member of the squad and has continued to impress across another standout season individually.

As for Toone, the England international has already scooped the Fans' Player of the Year and Goal of the Season, making it a hat-trick of awards for our no.7.

Ella has 28 appearances to her name prior to this afternoon's clash with the Blues and has come up clutch when needed, including her screamer at Wembley last weekend.

The Lionesses star can also add super strikes against Leicester, Brighton and Newcastle in the Women's FA Cup to an already impressive showreel this term.

Defender Hannah Blundell, the winner of last season's prize, finished just behind the pair in the voting, after a whole host of solid displays across the 2023/24 campaign too.

The 29-year-old is now fast approaching the 100 mark in terms of appearances for United and has played just one less than game than Maya this season, featuring 31 times in total.

But our congratulations must go to both Ella and Maya - well done, Reds!
