Jadon Sancho.

You saw a different side of Sancho

Manchester United caretaker manager Michael Carrick was delighted with Jadon Sancho's input in the 2-0 victory over Villarreal in the Champions League.

The winger scored his first goal for the club, after earlier forcing a fine block out of home keeper Geronimo Rulli, and looked in confident mood down the right flank, showing the sort of flair that persuaded the Reds to sign him from Borussia Dortmund in the summer after a lengthy transfer pursuit.

It was a moment the noisy travelling band of United fans enjoyed witnessing in the flesh and was just reward for a promising display, sealing the three points after Cristiano Ronaldo's lob broke the deadlock.

"I was so pleased for Jadon," Carrick admitted to club media. "I thought he worked his socks off tonight, I thought he gave everything tonight.

"At times, it wasn't always with the ball and I know how much he enjoys the ball at his feet and trying to make things happen. He showed a different side tonight and, to get his goal at the end, pretty much capped it off perfectly for him and for us."

Speaking to BT Sport, the caretaker manager added: "To finish it off with Jadon was brilliant. Defensively, he put in a real effort and worked hard for us when we needed him to. It was a big night for him."

The supporters were clearly also enthusiastic about Sancho's contribution, voting him Man of the Match for the first time since his switch to Old Trafford.

Sancho edged out David De Gea at the top of our poll and will look to continue his bright form in Sunday's Premier League assignment at leaders Chelsea.
