Former midfielder Michael Carrick personally delivered essential back-to-school packs to children in Manchester, as the Michael Carrick Foundation showed their continued support for Manchester United Foundation.

Carrick visited a number of schools in the region, including Ringway Primary School, to provide youngsters with stationery equipment, water bottles and restaurant vouchers.

In partnership with accountancy firm, Sedulo, the Michael Carrick Foundation aims to ensure that schoolchildren can enjoy their school holidays and make a smooth transition to high school this September.

Carrick hosted a special assembly for the children of Ringway Primary School to hand out the packs, and even took part in a kickabout.

Several other schools in the region have also received the back-to-school packs which will prove valuable to hundreds of children.

Carrick explained the importance of providing this support at such a pivotal time in their school journey.

He said: "It’s a big time in their lives, changing schools as a youngster, and it can be quite daunting at times, so if we can help by ensuring they have the right equipment and feel more prepared, then hopefully it will give them a little boost for the next chapter in their lives."

Jordanna Roberts, primary schools' manager for the Manchester United Foundation added to our former midfielder's sentiments.

She explained: "These packs are giving the children everything they need to have the best start when they transition onto high school – they’ll have one less thing to worry about, and they’ll be ready to go.

“At the Foundation we do as much preparation work as we can between our partner primary and secondary schools to get the children ready for this next step, and the partnership with Michael and his foundation is fantastic for our pupils in this way. We’ve done a lot of work with them now and they always seem to think of us first, which we always appreciate.”

He's still got it - Carrick enjoys a kickabout with youngsters at Ringway Primary School.

Carrick's appearance at Ringway Primary School was met with much excitement from its pupils and staff.

Sam, a pupil at the school, said: "I’m a bit nervous about high school but it’s just the next chapter of your life! It was fun to meet Michael, and for him to help us out shows that he’s a really nice person.”

Since first partnering in 2017, the Manchester United Foundation and the Michael Carrick Foundation have supported young people in the area through initiatives such as the Street Reds project - which offered free football and alternative activities to 8-19 year-olds - and the 2020 back-to-school initiative.

Carrick is honoured to play a big role in supporting young people across Greater Manchester.

He said: "Helping children in different ways is something we’re passionate about in my own foundation. Manchester United Foundation has very similar goals and is incredible to work with, so if we continue to work together in this way then it’s great for the kids.”
