Bishop issues apology to Mullin

Nathan Bishop has said sorry for his part in a collision with Paul Mullin, that resulted in an injury to the Wrexham striker.

The incident occurred in the first half of a youthful United team's 3-1 defeat to the Welsh side in the Snapdragon Cup in San Diego, before the Reds lost Dan Gore to a harsh red card after the break.

It came as the centre-forward chased a long ball over the top and was a shuddering coming together between the pair, with the United man also appearing to take a hefty blow.

Mullin was later taken to hospital to have the problem, diagnosed as a punctured lung, assessed. Thankfully, the forward has since uploaded a photo on social media, reassuring supporters that he is in decent shape: "Thanks for all your messages. All good here!" he wrote.

Nathan Bishop was booked for his challenge on Paul Mullin in the first half.

Bishop was instantly shown a yellow card by referee Mark Allatin, and the 23-year-old's concern for Mullin was clear to see.

The keeper was replaced by Radek Vitek in the second half of the match, but later posted on social media to apologise for his challenge.

"Just wanted to share my sincerest apologies to Paul Mullin," he posted. "A complete misjudgement and a genuine accident with zero malicious intent at all.

"Wishing you the speediest recovery and hope to see you back scoring goals as soon as possible!"

Bishop, who made a smart stop from Elliot Lee during the game, will have benefited from the experience of playing in front of a record attendance for the Snapdragon Stadium, which hosted 34,428 supporters for the game, and we all hope Mullin returns as quickly as possible to aid Wrexham's bid for a second successive promotion.

As for United, game three of Tour 2023 takes place at 01:30 BST on Thursday, with a more senior Reds team tackling Spanish giants Real Madrid, live on MUTV.
