Matic’s prediction for Donny

Nemanja Matic believes Donny van de Beek can become “a very important player for the future” at Manchester United.

The 23-year-old joined the Reds earlier this month and netted a debut goal in the opening day defeat to Crystal Palace.

Having now spent a couple of weeks training alongside him, Matic has been impressed by what he’s seen and is tipping the Dutchman for great things at Old Trafford.

“He's a happy man I think! [Smiles] He's happy to be with us and we're happy to have him,” Matic told us. “It's just a few weeks he's been with us and I'm sure he'll be a very important player for the future because he has a lot of talent. He's a very young player and I'm happy that we signed a great player.

“He has some experience from Ajax in the Champions League also so he already has big games in his legs. I'm sure he will improve with us and bring his football level up and I'm happy for him and the team.”

Matic and van de Beek are two of a number of highly talented players within our midfield and attack and the Serbian insists it bodes well for the team this season.

“It's always good when you have competition in the team, without it you cannot win anything,” he declared. “You need to have competition, when you know you have other great players in your position you know you have to work harder on the pitch and give your best every day.

“Healthy competition is always good to see and I’m happy in the midfield that we have great players.”

The new season is here. Our 2020/21 home, away and third kits are available now from United Direct.
