Saturday 15 August 2020 07:00

Nemanja Matic insists he and his Manchester United team-mates are ready for Sunday's Europa League semi-final test against Sevilla, as he reflected on a positive week in Cologne during a chat with the UTD Podcast team.

Our Serbia midfielder, who recently penned a new United deal, joined UTD Podcast presenters Sam Homewood and Helen Evans and former Reds defender David May on an entertaining video call earlier this week.

Matic talked about the great work the Reds have done on the training pitch in hot weather and says the players are well aware of how close the club is to winning some silverware.

Matic: We're happy and ready

Nemanja Matic talks to UTD Podcast about our week in Cologne so far and facing Sevilla on Sunday...

"We’re in the semi-final of the Europa League and we know we need to win two more games to get a trophy," he declared.

"We are happy that we are in Cologne, we’ve had some opportunities to see the city and it’s a very nice place, especially in this weather.

"Everything is good, we have good facilities, better than we expected, with a very good pitch for training. Sometimes it’s good to change a little bit the place where you train, we feel like we are at a pre-season camp or on tour but we know that this is a more serious situation.

"I think everyone is happy and everyone is ready for the semi-final. We play against Sevilla, who are a very good team. It will be a great challenge for us to see where we are at the moment and we can’t wait for Sunday to play."
Of course, the Reds have already qualified for next season's Champions League, by brilliantly securing third place in the Premier League with a superb run of results since the season resumed.

United's 2-0 win at Leicester City on the final day of the Premier League season last month sealed our top-four spot and during the podcast Matic joked with presenter Helen, the wife of former Reds defender and current Foxes player Jonny Evans.

"[To Helen] I also want to say hi to Jonny," said Nemanja, "and thank him for the penalty. I owe him a coffee when I see him!"
