Manchester United players celebrate a Carabao Cup goal

Vote for United's Player of the Month

Thursday 31 October 2019 15:00

The poll is now open for Manchester United’s Player of the Month award and, as usual, there are three players in the running.

The trio for October includes Marcus Rashford, who scored four goals for the Reds during the month, including a stunning effort in the Carabao Cup win over Chelsea.

The 22-year-old is up against our two previous winners for this season.

Daniel James took home the August award and is nominated for the third consecutive month after a number of impressive performances.

September winner Scott McTominay is also in contention, thanks in part to his strike at Norwich on Sunday, which was our 2,000th Premier League goal.

Which player will take home this trophy for October? Your vote could help decide it.

Nineteen-year-old left-back Brandon Williams was close to making the shortlist after mature showings against AZ, Partizan and Chelsea, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka has also stood out in Ole's new 3-5-2 formation since returning from a spell on the sidelines.

Who gets your seal of approval? Read on for why each player has been nominated, and find out how you can vote...

DANIEL JAMES – 6 appearances, no goals

The Wales winger continued his excellent start to life at Old Trafford with a Man of the Match performance at home to Liverpool in the first game after the international break. He laid on an assist for Rashford in our 1-1 draw with the Merseysiders and kept Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip busy all afternoon, despite playing in an unfamiliar role as a striker. Feared by defenders because of his sheer, unadulterated pace, James won penalties against Norwich and Chelsea as we closed out October with three consecutive wins on the road.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY – 6 appearances, 1 goal

The Academy graduate is becoming increasingly influential for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men and started in five of our six matches in October, coming on as a substitute in the other. His superb ball-winning abilities in midfield helped us in the build-up for goals against Liverpool and Chelsea, while our no.39 has also developed a reputation as a scorer himself in recent months. He enhanced that status by sweeping home our opener in the win over the Canaries, for which he earned the Man of the Match award.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 6 appearances, 4 goals

Rashford is in red-hot form, seeing out the month of October with four goals in as many games for United. The first, against Liverpool, showcased his intelligence and movement, while the second, at Norwich, emphasised not only his silky touch and ice-cold finishing skills, but his sheer will to bounce back after missing a penalty minutes earlier. Our no.10 saved his best until last though, registering a match-winning brace at Stamford Bridge the day before his 22nd birthday, including a breathtaking free-kick in front of the visiting supporters in the Shed End.
