Fred.

Ole: Fred will give everything he can for us

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Fred’s character and says the midfielder will do everything he can to be fit for this weekend’s visit of Liverpool.

The Brazilian played his part in the Reds’s come-from-behind victory over Atalanta in midweek but did have his evening brought to a slightly premature end when he limped off with an injury shortly before the final whistle.

And that has since raised a doubt over the availability of our no.17 for Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Jurgen Klopp’s side at Old Trafford.

While meeting with the media in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Ole was asked about Fred’s impact during Wednesday’s win and if he will be in contention to feature again upon our return to domestic action.

“Fred is a very good player, he is a regular for Brazil which, in itself, is a mark of quality,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s got an exceptional personality and attitude to football, such a big smile.

“At the present moment, I can’t say if he’ll be fit or not, but he’ll give everything he can to be there for us.”
Putting in the utmost to return from injury as quickly as possible is nothing new for Fred, who was in a similar position last season when he dealt with an issue in the lead up to the Europa League final.

The Brazilian could only make a short cameo during extra-time on that occasion in Gdansk, but Ole told reporters on Friday that the 28-year-old’s attitude towards that situation showed a lot about the kind of person our no.17 is.

“It showed for me when he got injured at the end of last season, and it was supposed to be a six-to-eight-week injury, and he was back the day before the Europa League final, and he was fit.

“He fully joined the training session before, we had to strap him up for the game but if I’d have known [the result] before, maybe I would have played him [from the start].

“But he would have put his hand up and sacrificed himself for the team, that’s for sure.”

This one goes out to Fred

The Brazilian's performance in the comeback win over Atalanta has not gone under the radar, as you can read here...

The midfielder’s display on Wednesday was an example of the impact that he can have, particularly in big fixtures against sides like Atalanta.

It would therefore obviously be a huge boost to Solskjaer and co if Fred was to be available for the clash with our rivals from Merseyside, who remain the Premier League’s only unbeaten side this season.
The boss discussed what the Brazilian offers to his side and touched on the progress he has seen the player make over recent years.

“He’s sharp, he’s nimble, he gets to players, he tackles, he’s never afraid,” Ole explained.

“The development he’s made in the two-and-a-half, almost three years I’ve been here now. He’s great to watch.”
