Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer: It's not just the three points

Thursday 13 May 2021 10:00

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appreciates any game against Liverpool means more to the club and our supporters.

Despite the fixture schedule wreaking havoc for the Reds this week, and prompting 10 changes to the line-up for the 2-1 defeat to Leicester City, any test against the Merseysiders is a perfect one in the mind of the manager.

Victory for his side would not only seal second spot in the Premier League but deliver a huge blow to the visitors' hopes of reaching next season's Champions League.

Speaking to MUTV's Stewart Gardner, he said he hoped any fatigue will not be a factor as the two giants meet in the rearranged fixture at Old Trafford tonight (20:15 BST kick-off)...

Ole: Everyone wants to play

The manager tells us how he is approaching the big game with Liverpool...

You made a lot of changes so are you expecting a similar thing and changes again on Thursday due to the energy levels?
"Yeah, we need loads of changes. Definitely. Of course, the ones who played on Sunday [at Aston Villa], most of them had a rest on Tuesday and some of them had run-outs. We'll have a fresher team than we had on Tuesday."

It was a tight game at Anfield, a 0-0, and then 3-2 here at Old Trafford in the FA Cup. Which sort of game are you expecting?
"Always difficult games. They're a good team and had some margins against them this year. We're looking forward to it. It's a test for us, in the last stretch of the season, we want to build some momentum and confidence. A game against Liverpool at home is a perfect chance to do that."

Is that important, keeping the momentum going?
"Definitely. When you play a final, you want to into that final bouncing and feeling confident. You feel this is the last game and always build up to the last game of the season anyway. We are ready."

Because it's Liverpool, do you feel any tiredness goes and everyone wants to play anyway?
"Everyone wants to play every game! Everyone today was prickling me on the shoulder - 'I want to come on, I want to come on.' It's a good thing. There's a good atmosphere, a good spirit in the camp and the game against Leicester is not going to stop that momentum."

Does this one mean a bit more for the club?
"Of course. It's not just three points."
