Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole exclusive: How we can beat Watford

Sunday 23 February 2020 08:00

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seeking an energetic performance from his Manchester United side against Watford at Old Trafford this afternoon.

In an exclusive pre-match interview with MUTV, conducted after Thursday night’s draw in Brugge, the boss said he wants us to attack the Hornets from the off, as we aim for back-to-back wins in the Premier League.

The Norwegian, who spoke about the benefits of playing at home for the first time in three weeks, also gave an update on Mason Greenwood and Odion Ighalo.

Read the full interview below…

Firstly Ole, are you hopeful that Mason Greenwood and maybe a couple of others might be available for Sunday’s match against Watford?
“Yes, we hope so. We’ll see how he is when we get back from Brugge. Of course we rested quite a few so we’ve got a fit squad to choose from.”

Watford were struggling when we went there before Christmas but they’ve had a comeback since then. Nevertheless, they are obviously still desperate for points…
“Nigel [Pearson] has done fantastic with them, of course we were the start of that and we shouldn’t have let that happen. We had chances ourselves and we gave easy goals away so we need to get back to playing proper football, attacking football. That game was too slow, so hopefully we can get at them and be on the front foot and press them, and also with the ball be more decisive with our passing and play through them, around them and get crosses in, and put pressure on them.”

It feels like ages since we’ve been at Old Trafford – will it be good to be back?
“It’ll be great to be back. It’s fantastic after the Chelsea win and we hope to build some momentum and Watford is a big game in that respect, so all eyes on that one.”

I think Odion Ighalo got 40 goals in 100 appearances for Watford so if he plays or features it will be a special day for him…
“Definitely it will be a special day for him and hopefully he can add to that goal tally in the Premier League but against them.”
