Ole's update on midfield options

Thursday 25 February 2021 23:28

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he will need to assess his midfield options ahead of Sunday's visit to Chelsea after Dan James became the latest to pick up a knock.

Our no.21 was substituted just before the hour-mark after he "felt a tweak" and he joins Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay on the treatment list, with forward Edinson Cavani also a doubt.

Axel Tuanzebe came off the bench to join the midfield at the break and he is another useful option for Ole to think about ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge.

The boss spoke about a potential new role for Axel Tuanzebe after the 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad...

"Of course, that’s why he played there," explained the boss to MUTV and BT Sport, when asked about Axel's role in the centre of the park.

"It’s one of those positions now we suddenly have Scott, Donny and Paul out. We’ve been really well off before and now we might have to look at options because I’m not sure if any will be available.

"Scott, Donny and Edinson we hope that they can be available for the weekend, but I’m not sure. Paul is still out for a few weeks unfortunately.”

Asked further about the injury picked up by James, who was a scorer against Real Sociedad in our first-leg victory, Ole added: "He felt a tweak.

"With the intensity he works at he felt something, so we hope it’s not really serious; we’ll have to check on him. It gave Amad a chance to have half an hour-ish."
