Ole: We're looking for a loan for Facundo

Tuesday 26 January 2021 13:30

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Manchester United are seeking a loan move for youngster Facundo Pellistri in the January window.

The Uruguayan winger joined the Reds in October, from Penarol, and has exclusively featured for the Under-23s so far, as he gets up to speed with the pace and physicality of the English game.

Having recovered from a COVID-19 diagnosis earlier this month, the club are now looking for a temporary move to get him some first-team football, as Ole revealed in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sheffield United’s visit to Old Trafford.

The futures of Lingard and Williams, as well as the form of two forwards, were discussed in Tuesday’s media briefing…

“Yeah, there have been talks, there have been quite a few clubs interested in Facundo to go out on loan,” said Solskjaer.

“That’s maybe something we will let him do now. He’s had a few games in the Reserves.

“We want him to have regular football, of course, at a higher level.”

The development plan is different, though, for Pellistri's fellow wide-man Amad Diallo.

The Ivorian arrived at Old Trafford three months after the Uruguayan, and has played fewer professional games, but the boss says it's only a matter of time before we see him in a matchday squad.

“With Amad, I think it’s a different scenario, he’s just come in and he’s going through a good training regime, training programme, and he’s doing really well,” continued Ole.

“It won’t be too long, I feel, before I can bring him into the squad.”
