Cavani and Ronaldo link-up excites Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes that Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo could form a formidable relationship on the pitch if they are paired together for Manchester United.

It is now a possibility for the first time since Ronaldo returned to the club last month, after Ole confirmed that Cavani has returned to training this week, following a recent injury problem.

The Uruguayan forward sustained a slight strain when playing in an in-house game during the recent international break but is now fit again and in contention to be included in the squad for the Premier League meeting with Aston Villa.

It means that we could get a first glimpse of the two fan favourites in tandem this Saturday lunchtime - kick-off is at 12:30 BST.

“It’s exciting to see them two together,” Ole told journalists, when asked about the possibility of the pair lining up alongside each other for United this season.

“I'm sure that'll be a good partnership as well, [two players] wanting to be on the end of things. We’ve seen some teams dropping deeper against us, not giving us as much space in behind and that’s definitely two boys you’d like to have around the goal when that’s the scenario.

“I can see them two working well together.”
As well as having an impact on each other, the veteran pair will no doubt provide a wealth of experience to the players around them in the Reds' dressing room.

That is one of the reasons that Ole was keen to take the opportunity to bring Ronaldo back to the club last month and add him to a group of experienced heads already within the group. That of course includes Cavani, who had such a big influence in his own debut campaign, last season.

“We knew he [Ronaldo] was going to have a great impact on and off the pitch,” said Ole, about the forward who has netted four times in his first three games back.
The manager added: “Cristiano is still so professional. The discipline he's showed throughout his career, to make the most of his career, is going to rub off on team-mates, and of course, scoring goals will only help that impact.

“So, I’ve been delighted. He’s been absolutely top, his work rate, his attitude going into games and his communication too.”
