Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's thoughts are already turning to Thursday night's Europa League tie with Real Sociedad.

The Reds defeated Newcastle United 3-1 on Sunday to return to second place in the Premier League and will now look to finish the job against La Real in order to reach the last 16 in Europe, after a convincing 4-0 triumph in the first leg in Turin.

Although a tough trip to Chelsea is on the horizon, there will be no complacency from the boss or his team when the Basque side visit Old Trafford.

After Amad and Shola Shoretire made their first-team debuts for the club this week, Ole was asked if the teenage pair would start on Thursday, given the four-goal cushion.

However, the boss was clear in his response: “Probably not," he said. “Shola and Amad, no I’m not sure if that would be fair on them. They will be in the squad.”

Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay joined Paul Pogba on the sidelines at the weekend, while Edinson Cavani has sat out the last two fixtures but there are hopes he can return, if not against La Real, then for the Stamford Bridge encounter on Sunday.

"Donny, Edinson and Scott, I don’t know," admitted Ole. "Maybe they’ll be available but I’m not sure.”

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad perhaps highlighted the quality of our result and performance at the Allianz Stadium by thumping Alaves 4-0 in La Liga, with Alexander Isak scoring a hat-trick. United loanee Facundo Pellistri made his debut as a substitute for the visitors.

Defender Robin Le Normand is unavailable for the second leg due to suspension after picking up a yellow card in Italy.
