Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacts.

Ole: Our tactics worked

Monday 18 February 2019 22:30

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was delighted with how his Manchester United side performed as the Reds reached the sixth round of the Emirates FA Cup by beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Two first-half goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba were enough to advance to the last eight of the competition with the visitors defending well in the second half to keep the fighting Blues at bay.

Speaking to BBC Sport and MUTV after the game, the caretaker manager looked ahead to our upcoming quarter-final fixture away at Wolverhampton Wanderers, how his side set up to deal with Chelsea's defenders and previewed this weekend's mouthwatering Premier League fixture against Liverpool at Old Trafford...

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reflects on beating Chelsea, drawing Wolves in the sixth round and more in our interview...

OUR TACTICS WORKED
"The performance was fantastic, the tactics worked. Obviously we asked Ander and Paul, our midfielders, next to Nemanja to go a bit higher up and get into the box more often, with Marcus and Romelu wider. So we worked [on it] and the defending in the second half, when we had to, was fantastic. Chris has been out two months and just played one game and he was brilliant."

THE BEST SUPPORTERS IN THE WORLD
"It seems like our fans enjoy away games. It was a fantastic performance from them as well tonight. I’ve got to say sometimes you want a home game but when we’re away we’ve got the best support in the world."

AREAS TO WORK ON
"Chelsea are a good team. They've got their way of playing, which is hard to play against. I thought, defensively, Juan did a fantastic job in between Jorginho and the two centre-backs. Defensively, we were absolutely perfect. With the ball, we could have done better and kept it more in the second half and controlled it but, then again, we kept a clean sheet."

THE IMPORTANCE TO BOUNCE BACK
"It's massive [the response after PSG]. An absolutely massive result. We had some criticism after the game against PSG as we didn't create a lot. Today was a tough, tough game and I have to say everyone, down to a 't', did everything we asked of them."

Ole and coach Kieran McKenna celebrate another superb result.

FA CUP SIXTH ROUND OPPOSITION
"An away tie again, you know, we've had Arsenal and Chelsea so we hoped for a home game but that's it. Wolves away and we have to do it the hard way. They're a very tough team to play against."

LIVERPOOL THIS WEEKEND
"The next game now is Liverpool and we have just got to focus on that one. It's a tough game going to Paris and having to win 2-0 but we did that tonight - we won 2-0. The league will be very important for us, of course, but a trophy is fantastic to end up with. The FA Cup is one of the best trophies you can win. I played in 1999 and we want to finish the season off with a bang."
