Ole: This defeat will not define our season

Second-half goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe mean that the French champions have a healthy advantage going into the second leg at the Parc des Princes in three weeks' time. The Reds were dealt further blows with Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial having to be withdrawn, as well as Paul Pogba being sent off before the final whistle due to picking up a second yellow card

When Ole spoke to BT Sport, MUTV and in his press conference after the game, he was met with a number of questions.

THIS DEFEAT ISN'T SEASON DEFINING
"It looked like the game we thought it was going to be. In the first half, there wasn’t really much in it, and then they got the first goal. When they got that one, it was a poor goal to give away. Then they got the momentum. They started to control the game. They had the experience to play it out.

"You can see that we’ve not played games at this level for a while and we’ll have to learn from this experience, because it was one of those experiences that can go either way. It’s not going to be a season defining one for us. It has to be one that we’re going to learn from."

LINGARD AND MARTIAL INJURY UPDATE
"We don't know. Muscular injuries - hamstring and groin, so we'll have to have a couple of days to assess them.

"They're  big parts of our squad and they have played very well. When they went out, in the second half, we didn't have so much movement and pace to get in behind them. Then Juan [Mata], I thought he was one who got on the ball and created a bit. So, we need to maybe find a different way to play when Anthony and Jesse are out."

POGBA TRIED TO AVOID CONTACT
"He tries to get his body across and Dani Alves is clever enough to put his foot in there, so he hits him. From the side, I knew that all Paul wanted to do was shield the ball, but he’s unlucky and hits him on the knee."

ALEXIS'S FORM
"When he plays he needs to find himself because we know there's a quality performer there."

HOW DO YOU STOP MBAPPE?
"Don't give him that space to run into. He is lightning quick, but get your body in against him when he runs past you. I was never a top central defender so you need to ask some top defenders how to stop him."

A POTENTIAL REALITY CHECK?
"Of course it was a reality check. You can see their strength they have when they put those players in [Neymar and Edinson Cavani], but then again, that's the level we want to get to. We are looking to strengthen the squad and we have to learn with so many youngsters, to make the step up next season."

SHOULD KIMPEMBE HAVE SEEN RED?
"Yes, very [lucky not to be sent off]. And the way he throws Rashford down to the ground in the second half and we don't even get a foul. But there's no point me sitting talking about those things now, they're gone. I'm disappointed, of course, that we're not going to have Paul in the next round because I thought he was our best player. He had three players around him all the time and he was still at the top, so that's a big blow because he has been fantastic for us."

WE NEED TO BELIEVE WE CAN WIN THE SECOND LEG
"We know we need to score two goals and not concede. But we’ve done that before at this club. We’ve turned things around. Of course, PSG are a really good team with quality from the keeper to the striker, but we’ve got to go there and believe. We’ve got to go there and try, we’ve got to go there and make an effort, and learn from today. We’ve got to look at this game and see where it went wrong. Of course, when you concede a goal from a set-piece, you concede a goal on the counter attack, you should not concede those goals."

WE'LL BE READY FOR CHELSEA
"We’ve got Chelsea and Liverpool coming up, so there’s no time to be sorry for ourselves. We’ll be ready for Chelsea, don’t worry about that."
