Solskjaer delighted by Greenwood's new contract
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he cannot wait to keep working with Mason Greenwood and helping to oversee the striker's development.
The 18-year-old, who already has first-team goals to his name against Astana and Rochdale this season, signed a new long-term contract on Friday to commit his future to his boyhood club.
The news clearly delighted Solskjaer, who appreciates he has an exciting prospect on his hands.
'I am sure he is going to be a top player'
Mason Greenwood signed a new long-term contract on Friday and, here, the boss explains why he can be a top player...
“He’s an exceptional goalscorer but he’s young and he’s learning. He’s a footballer who just wants to improve and I can’t wait to keep working with him.
“We’ve been watching him all through the years and he’s taken every level [in his stride] and now he’s stepped into the first-team environment and been very positive. Of course, he’s a young boy so it’s a new everyday life for him. He trains harder and has got to concentrate more so there’s ups and downs, the same as all kids, but I am sure he is going to be a top player for us.”
Ole is aware that there is obviously plenty more to come from the teenager, as he continues to work hard behind the scenes at the Aon Training Compex in a bid to hone his talents.
"He’s a goalscorer," added the boss. "He scores a different variety of goals – right foot, left foot and has great movement with strikes outside the box and inside the box. He needs to improve his heading, he knows that and I’m onto him about this, but he can score all types of goals."
