Ole reveals team news for Atalanta clash

Tuesday 19 October 2021 14:54

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has supplied an update on his plans for Wednesday's Champions League tie against Atalanta at Old Trafford.

The boss told club media reporter Mark Sullivan that striker Anthony Martial remains unavailable, even though he is getting closer to full fitness after returning with a problem from international duty with France.

The forward joined in training on Tuesday, in front of the cameras, but is not yet ready to feature as Group F really begins to hot up.

Fred and Edinson Cavani are pushing for inclusion, however, which is great news.

The South American pair were still playing a World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Uruguay in the early hours of Friday morning, so were unable to link up with the squad for the weekend clash at Leicester City in the Premier League.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is available after his suspension for the red card suffered at Young Boys was halved to one game, on appeal.

Harry Maguire came through the Foxes encounter unscathed on his return from a calf injury so he is ready to start, although Raphael Varane is absent with the groin issue he suffered during the UEFA Nations League final against Spain.

"Anthony joined in training today but he’s still not fit enough to join us [for the match]," the manager told us. "Harry’s not had any reaction so he’s fine and good to go. We didn’t lose anyone else from the game through injury at the weekend, so we’re, more or less, a full squad.

"Raphael is still not with us but Edinson and Fred are back available which is good for us."

ATALANTA TEAM NEWS

Rafael Toloi was taken off during the 4-1 victory over Empoli on Sunday and the centre-back looks to be ruled out with a thigh problem.

Matteo Pessina, Robin Gosens, Hans Hateboer and Berat Djimsiti are also set to be missing when the Italian side fly to Manchester for the first-ever meeting between the clubs.
