Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appreciates this Manchester United squad is special as he ponders his options for the next assignment - Tuesday's clash with Young Boys.

The Reds open Champions League Group F with a game at the Wankdorf Stadium against a side that demolished FC Zurich 4-0 at the weekend.

Although Edinson Cavani is absent due to a knock sustained the week before last, there is quality throughout the travelling party for Ole to select from and he feels the spine of his side is looking strong.

"We've had enough disappointments," said the boss, after losing out in the Europa League final on penalties to another group rival this time around in Europe's top competition. "That's for sure. This team now has matured and grown.

“I have to say, that was always the plan when I came in. With players like David [De Gea], Harry [Maguire] has had a couple of years now. We have a spine in the team. With Raphael [Varane] and Cristiano [Ronaldo], they added something extra you have to buy unless you win it four times yourselves. We've definitely learned. The group is special. They look after each other and we're in good stead."

Ole was asked again about whether he thinks Paul Pogba will sign a new contract and reiterated he believes this is a team that is going places, which is bound to be attractive to any player.

"Well, it's up to us to get results to prove to ourselves that we can win trophies," he added. "We want to be a part of winning a Man United team. Everyone's focused on doing their best, so let's see where we go."
