Solskjaer provides an update on Cavani

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spoke positively about Edinson Cavani's fitness, during his press conference to preview Sunday's match against Southampton.

El Matador is yet to feature this season as he was afforded an extended summer break, following his participation at the Copa America tournament with Uruguay.

Aged 34, it was important that Cavani had enough time to recharge his batteries ahead of his much-anticipated second season at United.

A personal reason meant the legendary striker had a little more time off than initially planned, as Solskjaer explained to reporters on Friday afternoon, but he is available now and raring to go.

“Edinson’s always looked after himself,” the manager told journalists via video link. “Of course, he’s lacking in team training, in football training but he’s been looking after himself and you can see that.

“He had different reasons as to why he was late, personal reasons, but his body can tolerate a lot. It wasn’t that he needed those extra days physically.

“He’s chomping at the bit, he’s ready to go and let’s see how much we can get out of him early on.”
