Ole hoping to name Telles in travelling squad

Friday 16 October 2020 12:00

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his hope that Alex Telles could make his debut in Saturday night's Premier League clash at Newcastle United.

The left-back has been away on World Cup qualifying duty with Brazil, and was in Peru in midweek, helping his country make a good start on the road to Qatar 2022.

However, he is still in contention to feature at St James' Park, which will provide a boost as it would appear he is the likeliest of the three deadline-day arrivals to play. Edinson Cavani is still being forced to quarantine and his fellow Uruguayan, Facundo Pellistri, has been described as one for the future by Ole as he beds into life in England.

When asked by MUTV's Mark Sullivan if Telles could be an option for the 20:00 BST kick-off, the manager replied: "Yes, of course he is. I’ll have a word with him today [Friday] and just make sure he feels up to it and, hopefully, we can bring him up to Newcastle."

The 27-year-old signed from Porto, where he has earned a big reputation as a full-back with great attacking presence, energy and aggression.

Telles is in line to become the eighth Brazilian to represent the Reds. Coincidentally, Rafael made his debut against Newcastle, but at Old Trafford in 2008.

Anderson, who also played for Porto, made his Premier League bow against Newcastle's fierce rivals Sunderland, a year earlier.

Our other representatives from the proud footballing nation are Fabio, current first-teamer Fred, Kleberson, Rodrigo Possebon and Andreas Pereira, who is on loan at Lazio.
