Omari keen to keep learning
Omari Forson says the past few weeks have been richly rewarding for him, with the young forward learning plenty while away with Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad.
Forson was involved in five of United's eight pre-season games and travelled with the rest of the first-team squad to the United States for Tour 2023.
The 19-year-old impressed while playing the full 90 minutes in our 1-1 draw with Athletic Club in Dublin and it's clear to see that he's keen to continue his footballing education with the club.
“I’ve learned so much – good habits on and off the pitch – and I’ve really enjoyed my time since the start of pre-season,” the 19-year-old told MUTV.
“There’s a lot to learn – you’ve got to keep learning. The learning never stops, especially because I’m young.”
Forson enjoying first-team opportunities
Omari Forson played the full game against Athletic Club and says pre-season has been a valuable learning experience…
The London-born forward, who joined the Reds’ Academy in 2019, has been blown away by the team’s passionate support through the recent run of games – be it in Norway, Scotland, the US, or Ireland this weekend.
“It’s crazy, something I haven’t experienced before. It’s been a really good experience going over to these countries,” he said.
Sunday’s meeting with Athletic Club ended 1-1 thanks to Facundo Pellistri’s late equaliser, a goal that was the least the Reds deserved, Forson insisted.
“I enjoyed the game, I thought we dominated them throughout,” he added. “The goal was always going to come and we were really happy to get the equaliser. It was a really good finish – I thought [Pellistri] was going to go with his head so that was a hard finish. He did really well.”
Looking ahead to the big Premier League kick-off, Forson hopes his pre-season form will lead to further opportunities in the season ahead, while acting as inspiration for other youngsters within our youth set-up.
“At United, you’ll be given opportunities, and that’s important, definitely. But I can’t get complacent, I’ll keep pushing and hopefully opportunities will come.”
