Ona Batlle in action for Man Utd

Batlle: We need to be clinical in the final third

Ona Batlle has called on Manchester United Women to be clinical in front of goal ahead of our WSL game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday (12 February).

The Reds will be looking to get back to winning ways after a goalless draw against Everton last time out, in which we created over 20 opportunities without finding the net.

However, only four of those shots were on target, and the full-back has called on United to take our chances against difficult opponents who have invested heavily on attacking reinforcements in January.

United Women fans' favourite Ona Batlle is excited to play at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday...

“They [Spurs] are a really good team, but I think that we have to make sure that we take our chances,” she told club media.

“We [need to] perform as good as possible, and we have to be clinical in the final third.”

The Spaniard has seven goal involvements from nine league games this season, and is influential in the way United attack down the wing.

But the 23-year-old is equally important at the back, playing alongside Maya Le Tissier, Millie Turner, and fellow full-back Hannah Blundell.

The back five – including shot-stopper Mary Earps – are rarely changed, and Batlle believes that has helped them develop a great relationship.

“We have a good team, and a good understanding. Anyone that can play there, we understand each other really good.

“But of course, [the current back four] have a really good understanding.”
Batlle has seven goals involvements in nine league games for United this season.
And their performances have been recognised throughout the season, most recently in the nominations for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award that sees both Batlle and Le Tissier in with a shot of winning.

“It is always very welcome [to be nominated],” Batlle said.

“I think that means that not just me but as a team we are doing good. Leah [Galton] won one [WSL Player of the Month] and we’ve been nominated more than one time.

“We are doing good as a team.”
The Reds travel to North London on Sunday in search of three points, and our full-back can’t wait to experience the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Having already played and won memorably at Old Trafford and the Emirates Stadium this season, she is enthused ahead of our first game at one of Europe's great new grounds.

“We are football players and we want to experience [playing at these stadiums]. I’m very excited to play in that stadium, I’ve heard it is one of the biggest stadiums so I’m looking forward to playing there.”

The game kicks off at 12:00 GMT and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
