Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful Paul Pogba will be fit for Wednesday's Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford.

The midfielder sat out his third successive match, following the international break, when missing the game against Southampton at St Mary's on Sunday.

Although troubled by an ankle problem, the France international could be available to feature against the team from his homeland in midweek, as the Reds chase a positive result that can guarantee a place in the knock-out stages of Europe's premier competition.

"Paul's ankle is improving," Ole told Sky Sports. "Hopefully, he's on the grass, training today [Sunday]. If not, hopefully tomorrow [Monday]. I'm not sure if it takes a long time to recover but hopefully he's ready for Wednesday."

The midfield quartet of Nemanja Matic, Fred, Donny van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes started the clash with the Saints.

One player definitely absent for the PSG fixture is Axel Tuanzebe, who is suspended after picking up a yellow card against Istanbul Basaksehir.

The French champions warmed up for the crunch tie with a 2-2 home draw against Bordeaux. Neymar and Moise Kean found the back of the net and Thomas Tuchel's team were still three points clear of Lille at the Ligue 1 summit, despite failing to get the victory.
