Pogba pleased to pick up monthly award

Thursday 10 January 2019 07:00

Paul Pogba was pleased to see his impressive form in December recognised by Manchester United fans, who voted him our Player of the Month.

The Frenchman registered four goals and four assists during the final weeks of 2018, while he earned our Man of the Match award, which is also voted for by supporters, in the home wins over Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth.

Speaking to us during our warm-weather training camp in Dubai, the midfielder admitted he was delighted to be back out on the pitch and helping the team.

Paul picked up the Player of the Month trophy after a stellar December.

“Obviously it’s good,” said Paul. “The month before that [November] I wasn’t playing a lot so just being back on the pitch, playing and enjoying with the guys is good. It’s always good for me and I enjoy playing football and being with the guys.”

'BOURNEMOUTH HEADER WAS MY FAVOURITE GOAL'

Our no.6 netted twice in the 3-1 win over Huddersfield on Boxing Day before repeating the feat in the 4-1 victory over Bournemouth four days later, as he became the first United player to score at least twice in successive Premier League games since Wayne Rooney in 2012.

When asked if he had a favourite goal from the four he scored in December, Paul replied: “Yes, I would say the header [against Bournemouth].

“It’s not my best attribute, I would say, but yes, the header. The timing was good and the cross [from Ander Herrera] was good, so it was a good goal.”

'WE JUST WANT TO CARRY ON WINNING'

The Reds have won five consecutive matches under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – a record we’ll be looking to maintain in Sunday’s tough test against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Paul, who is hoping to be fit after missing the FA Cup win over Reading with the knock he sustained in last week’s victory at Newcastle, feels the squad have gained so much confidence from our current winning form.

“We’re Manchester United so that [winning] should be a basic thing for us,” he said. “Obviously we know that the Premier League is hard and we have a lot of games [to play] but those five games give us more confidence. Mentally we’re strong and ready. For the rest of the season, we just want to do the same and carry on like that.”
