Pogba: Liverpool clashes matter more

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is excited for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool (kick-off 16:30 BST).

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men take on our arch-rivals this weekend in a highly interesting battle at Old Trafford.

The Reds are looking to beat Jurgen Klopp’s side at home for the second time this term, adding to our 3-2 win over the Merseysiders in the Emirates FA Cup in January.

One of those who wants to secure that second win badly is Paul Pogba. The Frenchman played the full 90 minutes when the sides met at the start of the year and is eager to walk out at Old Trafford for another encounter with one of our biggest rivals.

Obviously, every game is important but even more so against Liverpool; we know the rivalry between the two clubs, the World Cup winner told United Review.

But we have to think about us – we are in second place and we want to stay there and push the first one [Manchester City], so obviously this is an important game for us and we want to win this one.

Prior to that FA Cup victory in January, Pogba had not been involved in a success against the Scousers since returning to United in August 2016. Before that 3-2 win, his other four appearances against them had all ended as draws.

For sure it was important because I hadn’t won against them since I arrived here, the 28-year-old said about our cup clash earlier in the campaign.

It was important for me and I hope we can carry on again for this game.

Paul namechecks four global greats whose attitude is something he has always admired.

Ole’s Reds sit firmly inside the top four spots in second place, with a 12-point advantage over West Ham in fifth and a 10-point deficit to Manchester City at the top of the table. Meanwhile, reigning league champions Liverpool have endured a turbulent title defence and currently sit outside of the Champions League spots in sixth place, three points behind Chelsea, who hold the crucial fourth spot.

In other words, Sunday's match at the Theatre of Dreams looks set to be a highly crucial one for this season’s outcome. Our creative midfield powerhouse therefore expects an intense 207th meeting between the historic clubs.

It’s always been attacking, it’s the Premier League. That’s how this league is, our no. 6 said.

Every game is a tough game and we just have to get ready for this.

Kick-off at Old Trafford on Sunday is at 16:30 BST.
