Tullis-Joyce named Player of the Match v Arsenal
Phallon Tullis-Joyce registered her 10th clean sheet of the season in Manchester United Women's 0-0 draw away to Arsenal on Saturday, and was subsequently chosen by fans as our Player of the Match.
The American received 44 per cent of the vote in the full-time poll on ManUtd.com and the United App, to finish ahead of fellow nominees Maya Le Tissier (32 per cent), Dominique Janssen (15 per cent) and Julia Zigiotti (10 per cent).
Tullis-Joyce made a series of important saves to keep the Gunners at bay in a tough contest, that United completed the final 25 minutes or so of with a player less, after Jayde Riviere was sent off in the second half.
The Reds made a positive start to the Barclays Women's Super League fixture but, after our hosts - the reigning European champions - settled midway through the first half, Phallon was kept busy for much of the encounter's remainder.
Our no.91 dived at the feet of Olivia Smith, Arsenal's record signing, to smother a close-range attempt on goal, before staying alert to keep out a deflected effort from former Reds striker Alessia Russo in first-half stoppage time.
After the break, the Gunners continued to put the pressure on and Marc Skinner's side had to defend resiliently. As we did, Tullis-Joyce continued to thwart Russo, stretching out a leg to keep out a scrappy strike before getting down to gather a clever goalbound flick from the Arsenal forward.
Substitute Caitlin Foord was also denied from range before our goalkeeper made a big stoppage-time intervention, diving low to her left to stop a shot from Victoria Pelova, which threatened to undo our good work at the last and nick the points for the hosts.
Phallon now has 10 clean sheets from 20 appearances across all competitions this season, meaning she's into double figures for the second successive campaign.
Our no.91 registered 18 shutouts in 31 matches last term, her first as United Women's first-choice shot-stopper.
Thirteen of those came in the WSL, a tally that saw her share the league's Golden Glove award with Chelsea's Hannah Hampton, at the end of 2024/25.
Tullis-Joyce has four league clean sheets this season, meaning she is just one behind England international Hampton and Spurs keeper Lize Kop (five) in the race for the 2025/26 prize.
