Tullis-Joyce named April’s Player of the Month

Saturday 03 May 2025 13:00

Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has capped off her landmark April by being named our Women’s Player of the Month for the second time this season.

After previously winning the award for December, Phallon received a majority 40 per cent of all selections from supporters voting on ManUtd.com and in the United App this time around, ensuring she took the latest crown ahead of her nominated team-mates.

Midfielder Grace Clinton finished second (31 per cent), with full-back Jayde Riviere (18 per cent) and winger Celin Bizet (12 per cent) coming third and fourth respectively in the official poll.

Thank you to everyone who voted.

Phallon continued an exceptional season to date in the campaign’s penultimate month, playing every minute of our fixtures against Man City, West Ham and Chelsea.

With the assistance of her supporting outfield cast, the shot-stopper took her clean-sheet tally for the term to 18, after registering shutouts in the 2-0 win over City and 0-0 draw with the Hammers – the latter ensuring she will at least be a joint-recipient of the WSL Golden Glove award at the end of 2024/25.

Lucy Bronze’s sole goal for Chelsea in our recent 0-1 reverse to the WSL champions was the only time Tullis-Joyce’s defence was breached, despite the American making an extraordinary triple save earlier in the contest at Leigh Sports Village.

It comes after she also added an impressive double stop to her highlight reel in the aforementioned victory over City, as we booked our place in the FA Cup final, first pushing Yui Hasegawa’s goalbound free-kick onto the crossbar before getting up to brilliantly deny Lily Murphy’s rebound attempt with an outstretched left leg.

On top of those moments on the pitch for the club, our no.91 also made April a month to remember off it, by signing a new contract with the club, keeping her a Red until at least 2028.

While on the international stage, the 28-year-old’s form at United was rewarded with a senior debut for the USA, in the Olympic champions’ 2-0 win over Brazil on 5 April.

Now, Tullis-Joyce is looking to follow up those achievements by playing her part in a massive May for the Reds, as we look to secure Champions League qualification across our final two WSL games of the season before bidding to retain the FA Cup in the term-concluding final against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.

Our next league outing is the huge Manchester derby against fellow European challengers City at Old Trafford tomorrow (Sunday, 12:00 BST kick-off), where a point would be enough for United to lock in continental qualification. Tickets for the clash start from £7.50 and are available here.

Another clean sheet would also see PTJ become the outright winner of the WSL’s Golden Glove award in her maiden campaign as our first-choice goalkeeper. It would be quite the feat.

For now though, congratulations on your latest Player of the Month triumph, Phallon!
