Tullis-Joyce: It was an incredible team effort

Phallon Tullis-Joyce couldn't have dreamt up a better debut for the Reds, as she made her Manchester United bow against Everton in our 7-0 Conti Cup win on Thursday evening.

Goals from Nikita Parris (three), Rachel Williams, Hayley Ladd, Geyse and Leah Galton ensured a perfect start to our League Cup campaign, with Tullis-Joyce posting a first clean sheet at the other end, following her summer switch from OL Reign.

Having been kept relatively quiet at Leigh Sports Village throughout the contest, the 27-year-old shared her joy as she spoke to MUTV's Ben Ibson following our victory.

“It was an incredible team effort, I mean seven goals, the team just showed out tonight,” began Tullis-Joyce.

“I'm just so happy to be part of the club. It was just about as good as it can get, so I am super happy for the team.”

Having been made to wait patiently for her first start, the American admitted our Conti Cup endeavours provide the perfect chance for everyone in the squad to garner momentum in a busy season.

“I think it is a time for people to get minutes as well,” she added. “You see some of our stars just showing up, like Geyse is just making people look like fools.

“So it is great to see everyone's confidence build up during this tournament, so we would like to see that progress over the future games.”

United opted to introduce plenty of stars from the bench in the final stages against the Toffees, with fellow summer signing Geyse netting as a substitute in the victory with a fine solo effort.

The Brazilian's goal was her first for the club, and Phallon says the forward's quality is always clear to see.

Marc Skinner praises the performance levels of his players, following the Reds' comprehensive victory over Everton...

“She is [Geyse], definitely one that keeps me on my toes,” said Tullis-Joyce.

“She is Brazilian, so I always have to make sure I stay tall and wait till the last possible moment. She is a great player.”

Our goalkeeper also shared her appreciation for our supporters, with more than 1,800 in attendance to spur the Reds on, on a cold Thursday evening at LSV.

“Especially in the rain, our fans also really showed up and it was incredible to hear them. It was great to hear their presence and we are super grateful for them.”
