Ronaldo with April's prize.

Ronaldo clinches May Player of the Month award

Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted Manchester United's Player of the Month for May.

The striker suffered a disappointing end to the campaign, like the team in general, as he missed the final-day defeat to Crystal Palace with a hip flexor problem.

However, his Man-of-the-Match performance in the 3-0 win over Brentford at the start of the month was largely responsible for him securing the trophy again.

It means a third successive win for Ronaldo – pictured above when collecting the prize for April's efforts – and a fifth overall in his first season back at Old Trafford, following that shock summer move from Juventus.

The Portugal international's emphatic penalty against the Bees proved to be his 18th and final strike in the 2021/22 Premier League.

Juan Mata and Anthony Elanga were the other contenders for the award, but Ronaldo polled 78 per cent of the supporters' vote to finish well clear.

Mata finished in second spot with youngster Elanga in third.

Congratulations again, Cristiano, and good luck for Portugal's UEFA Nations League games next month.
