Double Dutch test for young Reds

Wednesday 27 July 2022 15:10

Manchester United's Under-21s have been drawn with two Dutch teams in the Premier League International Cup.

The Reds are in Group B of the competition, alongside Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United, Sparta Prague, Monaco, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.

However, we will only face the continental teams in the group stage, not the English sides, with all of the games at home, as Leigh Sports Village hosts the fixtures.

Under-21s fixtures released

The Premier League 2 campaign will begin with a trip to Arsenal in August.

There are three groups of eight clubs, 12 from the Premier League and 12 invitees from overseas, with the top two qualifying for the knockout stages, along with the best two third-placed sides.

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final are 90 minutes in duration with extra-time and penalties if required. If two international teams are paired with each other, it will be staged by the Premier League at a neutral venue.

This is an Under-21 tournament (for players born after 1 January 2001) but five overage outfield players, and one overage goalkeeper, are permitted.
