What's happening before United v West Ham kicks off?

Wednesday 01 March 2023 17:45

There are a number of presentations set to take place before tonight’s Emirates FA Cup tie between Manchester United and West Ham at Old Trafford.

Kick-off is at 19:45 GMT, but before the action begins, there will be some special pitchside activity which our match-going fans can witness from their seats.

The first trophy of Erik ten Hag's reign, the Carabao Cup, will be shown to the Old Trafford crowd by Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes.

The same players lifted the silverware at Wembley Stadium of course, after the Reds defeated Newcastle United 2-0 in Sunday's final with goals from Casemiro and Marcus Rashford.

The Carabao Cup silverware will be shown to the home crowd at Old Trafford tonight.

The clean sheet kept in the final was a notable one for David De Gea, who became United’s leading goalkeeper in that category with 181 to his name.

He surpassed the record previously held by Peter Schmeichel and to mark that achievement, our no.1 will be formally handed a special award by Sir Alex Ferguson just before kick-off tonight.

Also this evening, Casemiro and United Women goalkeeper Mary Earps will be presented to the crowd in recognition of the global awards they received from FIFA earlier this week.

Casemiro, who scored United’s opener in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final, was named in FIFPRO’s World 11 following his impressive performances throughout 2022.

Meanwhile, Earps was chosen as FIFA’s Best Women’s Goalkeeper, winning the illustrious award at the ceremony following her standout displays for club and country in the last calendar year.

Our no.18 is back at Carrington, and shared his achievement with his team-mates.

On a more sombre note, the United and West Ham teams will gather in the centre circle and there will be a minute’s applause as a mark of respect to legendary TV commentator John Motson, who sadly passed away last week.

‘Motty’ became the voice of many iconic moments for United and football in general during his acclaimed broadcasting career. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.
