Varane's classy farewell message to Real Madrid

Our prospective new signing Raphael Varane has posted a classy and emotional farewell message to Real Madrid, ahead of his upcoming transfer to Manchester United.

It was announced on Tuesday evening that we have reached an agreement with the Spanish giants for the transfer of their France international, subject to a medical and player terms being finalised. 

The club statement conjured a tidal wave of excitement among United supporters around the world and everybody is looking forward to the deal being completed in the near future. 

A transfer to Old Trafford represents an exciting new adventure for Varane after 10 trophy-laden seasons at Real Madrid, where he became one of the most decorated and respected defenders in world football, winning four Champions League trophies and three La Liga titles, among many other pieces of silverware. 

In a touch of class that highlights Raphael’s outstanding character, he has posted a lengthy statement to Real Madrid’s supporters that reflects on his decade in the Spanish capital, which you can read below.

“These past days have been filled with many emotions, feelings that I now want to share with all of you,” writes the 28-year-old on Instagram. “After 10 amazing and wonderful years at Real Madrid, a club I will always carry in my heart, the day has come to say goodbye. 

“Since I came in 2011, we've together exceeded all expectations and achieved things I never dreamed of. I would like to thank all the coaches and all the people who work or have worked at the club for everything they have done for me. 
“Thank you very much also to all the Madridistas who always gave me a lot of love and with their great demands they pushed me to give the best and fight for every success. 

“I had the honour of sharing the locker room with the best players in the world. Countless victories I'll never forget, especially 'La Decima'. I realise it's been a great privilege to have been able to live those special moments.

The boss was delighted to speak about the incoming defender.

“Finally, I want to thank all Spaniards and especially the city of Madrid where my two children were born. This country will always be special to me. It's been an amazing journey in every way. I leave with the feeling of giving it all and I won't change a single thing in this story of ours.
