Pundit Predictions: Who will lead the line against Liverpool?

Saturday 16 March 2024 14:14

Former Manchester United striker Danny Webber believes Rasmus Hojlund will return to our starting XI for Sunday's Emirates FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool.

Erik ten Hag's side host the Merseysiders in a 15:30 GMT kick-off at Old Trafford, with a place in the last four of the historic competition up for grabs.

Plenty of talking points arose from the Dutchman's press conference on Friday, such as Hojlund, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire returning to training, so there are sure to be some big calls to make for our fans in this week's United Predictions game.

Make your picks for our starting line-up, Man of the Match and first scorer, as well as the full-time result, now.

Webber, who has previously led the line for United, believes Rasmus will go straight back into Erik's starting XI for the monumental cup clash against our North West rivals.

He also believes that Victor Lindelof will continue at left-back, despite Wan-Bissaka's return to fitness.

STARTING XI

Webber's prediction:

Onana
Dalot
Evans
Varane
Lindelof
Casemiro
Mainoo
Garnacho
Fernandes
Rashford
Hojlund

FIRST SCORER

Marcus Rashford was on the scoresheet when United hosted Liverpool in the Premier League last season, netting the goal that ultimately proved to be the winner in the match that saw United prevail 2-1.

Our no.10 has also netted twice in his last two games, against Manchester City and Everton, respectively, and is the man Webber is backing to get the scoring started at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Webber's prediction: Marcus Rashford

MAN OF THE MATCH

Alejandro Garnacho was the winner of our fan award last time out, against Everton, after winning two penalties and being dynamic throughout.

Since breaking into the first team, Kobbie Mainoo has claimed the accolade twice - away at Everton and Wolves - and was also named our Player of the Month for January.

The 18-year-old, who this week received his first Under-21s call-up for England, is Webber's pick for our standout performer against Liverpool.

Webber's prediction: Kobbie Mainoo

FINAL RESULT

The last encounter between the sides was the 0-0 draw at Anfield earlier this season, in the Premier League.

When we last met Liverpool in the FA Cup, Bruno Fernandes's late free-kick clinched a 3-2 victory for United.

Webber believes that the sides will be locked at 2-2 after normal time but backs Ten Hag's side to edge the Merseysiders in extra-time.

Webber's prediction: United 2 Liverpool 2 (United to win in extra-time)
