Why Cavani starts at Burnley

Ralf Rangnick has explained why he has selected Edinson Cavani to lead the line for Manchester United against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Edinson is making his first start since the trip to Aston Villa on 15 January, although he did make a substitute appearance against West Ham prior to the international break.

Edi played twice and scored for Uruguay during the recent internationals and was allowed to stay in the country a little longer, meaning he was not available for Friday’s Emirates FA Cup game with Middlesbrough.

When interviewed by Stewart Gardner prior to kick-off, Ralf said that Edi’s ‘fighting’ qualities would come in handy against a Burnley side sure to be physical from the off.

See who Ralf has selected for tonight's game against the Clarets at Turf Moor.

“Well, we played Burnley a couple of weeks ago and we’ve seen quite a few games here at Turf Moor so we know that especially in early stages of the game the game will require a lot of sprinting, fighting for second balls, chasing balls, and I therefore decided to start with Edi because this kind of profile works well for Edi.”

Cristiano Ronaldo is the player who makes way for Cavani, although Rangnick admitted that he would play a part in United’s upcoming fixtures, with February a busy month for the Reds.

“We’ve scored enough goals to win games, except for the Middlesbrough game,” Ralf added to BT Sport.

“We are not worried about Cristiano not being able to score enough goals. We have more games coming up and we need Cristiano to start them.”
