Rangnick's team news update for Norwich

Friday 10 December 2021 12:30

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has provided the latest on his squad in advance of the trip to Norwich City.

The Reds are in action in a 17:30 GMT kick-off at Carrow Road, hoping to build on the consecutive Premier League victories over Arsenal and Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

The boss made 11 changes to the side that took on Young Boys on Wednesday but a more familiar line-up is expected in East Anglia.

Ralf was asked about the situation regarding Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who picked up a couple of heavy knocks when colliding with the hoardings in the dying seconds of the 1-1 draw in the final Champions League group game.

"We have two or three question marks behind players since they haven't shown up, we train at two o'clock. We have to wait until after the training session and the doctor and medical department can tell me what the situation is like.

"Aaron, as you said, and Nemanja Matic has a bit of a cold. I wouldn't call it 'flu, he is negative, tested for COVID, and I am still hoping he is available."

The plan is that those rested in midweek will come back into the travelling squad.

"We trained in two different groups before Wednesday," he added. "The other group that played against Palace rested, whereas the others prepared for the game."

Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial are all missing but Edinson Cavani is in contention to return for the teatime encounter.

NORWICH'S TEAM NEWS

Canaries chief Dean Smith is concerned about a couple of unidentified players who have been feeling unwell so results are being awaited on PCR tests.

Mathias Normann is still unavailable while Dimitris Giannoulis is in line to replace Brandon Williams, who is ineligible to face his parent club.

The game comes 'too soon' for Sam Byram, although the defender is close to making a comeback.
