Rangnick wishes van de Beek well

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick is backing Donny van de Beek to show what he can do following his loan switch to Everton on deadline day.

The 24-year-old departed for Merseyside earlier this week and will remain with the Toffees until the end of the season.

He last featured for the Reds in our 1-0 Emirates FA Cup win over Aston Villa last month and Rangnick feels the move is one that will benefit the Dutchman, giving him more opportunities to play in the Premier League.

United midfielder Donny will spend the rest of this season with another Premier League club.

''In the end it is a question of competition,’’ said the German.

''He didn’t get enough game time, but that is not to say he is not good enough to play in the Premier League or for Manchester United.

''I am pretty sure he will get the game time at Everton and show what kind of quality player he can be.
''He is a fantastic person. In the last nine or ten weeks whilst I have got to know him in person, I am fully aware he is a fantastic team player and I wish him all the very best.''

While van de Beek headed out of Old Trafford, it was confirmed there would be no such move away for another player who has featured infrequently this season, Jesse Lingard.

Rangnick believes the 29-year-old Academy graduate can still play a vital part for his side this term.

Ralf provides an update on his squad - including Paul Pogba's availability - for Middlesbrough's fourth-round visit.

‘’I think he [Lingard] can play two positions in our formation right now.

‘’It is either as one of the two number eights like Bruno Fernandes, Fred and McTominay [Scott] can play, but he could also play in either of the two wing positions too,’’ added the German.

‘’Those are personally the two positions I see for Jesse.’’
