Ralf Rangnick

Ralf's squad update for the derby

Friday 04 March 2022 13:30

Ralf Rangnick has given a squad update ahead of United's trip to the Etihad Stadium for Sunday's derby clash with Manchester City, while Blues counterpart Pep Guardiola has ruled two players out.

The Reds have been without both Scott McTominay and Edinson Cavani recently.

An illness for Scott resulted in him missing out on the draws with Atletico Madrid and Watford, while a groin injury means Edi has not played for United since the game against Burnley at Turf Moor on 8 February.

Earlier in the week, McTominay was pictured by our photographers during a training session at Carrington.

Cavani returned to training on Thursday and was involved once again with his team-mates today (Friday).

Ralf said the Uruguayan came through the sessions well and could make his squad for the weekend, as he looks to appear in the derby for the first time since signing in October 2020.

However, the German added there could be some further doubts around selection.

“He is back in training since yesterday, today was his second training session with the team,” Ralf told reporters as they were welcomed back to Carrington for the first time since the pandemic.

“He looks good to be involved on Sunday, but there are still some question marks over other players. It looks good for Edinson for Sunday.”
